Carrie
Anna Gates (1854-1922) Prospect 456
Mrs.
Carrie Gates, 68 years old of Richmond Hill, Queens drowned
while in the ocean off Delware Avenue at Long Beach on August
12, 1922. She was visiting her daughter, a bride of only three
days.
She
desired to go bathing in the water in the late afternoon and
when members of the family seemed slow in starting off, she went
to the beach alone.
She
entered the water and started to swim and was struck by a large
wave. She was stunned by it and sank. A passerby, Mr. George
Golden swam to rescue her, but she was already gone. He
succeeded in bringing her body to shore, and Dr. George A. Reiss
pronounced her dead. |
