Dr.
August Lendle (1873 – 1927) Prospect 320
Dr.
August Lendle resided at 30 Greenway Terrace in Forest Hills,
New York.
He was
born in Sonneberg, Germany in 1873 and took up the study of
chemistry there.
He
received his degree and then entered into the dye stuff
industry. He lived in England for a while and then came to the
United States in 1906. Two years later he married Martha Stark.
He was a
leading Chemist of the texile industry, and was the Vice
President of the General Dyestuff Corporation of America. He was
also a member of the German-American Club, the Masons and other
fraternal groups in Queens.
He died
at his home on March 29,1927. His wife Martha passed away April
28,1949 in San Francisco.
On his
tombstone is written:
WER
SEGNEND WIRKT BIS IHM DIE KRAFT GEBRICHT UND LIEBEND STIRBT ACH,
DEN VERGISST MAN NICHT which means:
"He who
acts as a blessing until his strength breaks and dies loving,
ah, he is not forgotten."
