George C. Book ( 1889-1909) Maple 427
George Book was the son of C.W. Book
of Washington Street in Jamaica, Queens.
He was born in East New York on August
3, 1889. When he was just 18 years old,
he secretly married Louisa Distler,
daughter of John Distler, a well known
Jamaica resident. The marriage was kept
secret for almost a year, and the
ceremony was performed in New Jersey.
Young George was connected with a well
known furniture house in Brooklyn and
also at one time worked for the Jamaica
Post Office. He suffered from gastritis
and died a day before his twentieth
birthday of an abscess of the liver. He
left a five month old daughter named
Dorothy, his wife Louise and a sister
Anna Book.
