George C. Book ( 1889-1909) Maple 427

  

George Book was the son of C.W. Book of Washington Street in Jamaica, Queens. He was born in East New York on August 3, 1889. When he was just 18 years old, he secretly married Louisa Distler, daughter of John Distler, a well known Jamaica resident. The marriage was kept secret for almost a year, and the ceremony was performed in New Jersey. Young George was connected with a well known furniture house in Brooklyn and also at one time worked for the Jamaica Post Office. He suffered from gastritis and died a day before his twentieth birthday of an abscess of the liver. He left a  five month old daughter  named Dorothy, his wife Louise and a sister Anna Book.
