George Weston (1876-1932) Prospect 224A
George Weston was originally a native of Ohio. At the time of his death,
he lived at 540 Highland Avenue in Westfield, New Jersey. He was 56
years old when he passed away on October 23, 1932. He was playing golf
on the Echo Lake Country Club golf course, when he was seized by a heart
attack. He was with his playing companion, a New York Stock Broker,
Robert L. Rookel and they were about to set out from the third tee when
the fatal attack seized him. He was pronounced dead when the physician
arrived.
Mr.
Weston was Vice President and Treasurer of The American Express Company.
His association with this company lasted forty years, from his
engagement as a clerk at the age of 16 until his death at the age of 56.
He
was also treasurer of Wells Fargo & Co. of Colorado, and treasurer and
director of the National Express Company, the Wells Fargo Latin American
Company and the Westcott Express Company. His offices were at 65
Broadway in Manhattan.
In
his neighborhood of Westfield, he was very active in local affairs,
religious, civic and was philanthropic. He was a charter member, vice
president and director of the Westfield Young Men's Christian Assn. and
a leading member of the Westfield Congregational Church and assistant
superintendent of its Sunday school.
He
belonged to Atlas Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, and the Whitehall
Club of New York. He was married to Mrs. Ruby Fishburn Weston, and had a
daughter, Mrs. F.J. Gimber of Plainfield. |
