Giuseppe Izzo (1895-1915) South Border 5 Grave 1

Buried in South Border,  Giuseppe was killed by electric shock when he stepped on the third rail of a Long Island Railroad train in Woodside. He worked in the maintenance yard of the Railroad at Stryker and Second Street. He was trying to get out of the way of an upcoming train and stepped back on the third rail and was electrocuted. He lived at 475 Broadway in Astoria. He was working on a Sunday and was scheduled to leave for Italy the next day to enlist in the Italian Army with a group of other Italian immigrants. He was 20 years old. The New York Times obituary named him as Joseph Izzo.
