Moffat Family Summit 92

Not much is known about the Moffat family, except that they lived at 83-87 Richmond Hill Drive. There were a lovely set of Spanish Stucco houses on what is now 117th Street near 84th Avenue which were torn down to make way for a large senior housing complex called Atria.

The patriarch, Harry Moffat died at the age of 77 in November of 1949. His wife, Harriette Louise Moffat (nee Disbrow) died in her mid 50’s in October of 1925. Also interred with them are Arthur S. Harrison (1977) and ashes of Ruth M. Harrison, 68 years old (1981). The first interment was that of Lucy Moffat, in 1910 at the age of 5 from laryngitis. In this time antibiotics were not invented yet, and many deaths occurred of this nature. Lucy Grace’s nickname was Muffie. A package of glass negatives were found with the nickname of Muffie Moffat on it and were traced to this young girl. The sweet photograph is that of Muffie, whose photo graced the cover of the book; Images of America: Richmond Hill by Carl Ballenas and Nancy Cataldi .
