Dr.
Philip M. Wood (1855-1915) Maple 104

Dr,
Philip M. Wood was considered one of the finest physicians on Long
Island. He was the first President of St. Mary's Hospital in Jamaica. He
was a graduate of The Bellevue Hospital Medical College. He was for many
years the visiting physician at the Mineola Hospital for the Insane.
Dr.
Wood was also one of the organizers of the Jamaica Bank. It was later
taken over by the Bank of Long Island and he was also the Director of
the Jamaica Savings Bank. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of
Queens, the Queens-Nassau Medical Society, Long Island Council of
Physicians, Long Island Medical Society and the New York State Medical
Society.
He
resided at 431 Fulton Street, Jamaica and was married to Minnie Betz
Wood.
He
passed away on March 27, 1915 at the age of 60. His estate was estimated
at
$
500,000. His wife Minnie died on April 2,1945 in Scarsdale, New York. |
