Coward (1842-1917) and Mary Johnson Coward (1843-1939) Summit

Jonathan
Coward was a ninth descendant of John and Priscilla Alden. He
was married to Mary Johnson Coward. They were childhood
sweethearts before the Civil War and were separated during the
conflict. They were reunited and married almost 50 years later
in 1911.
Mrs.
Coward had four brothers in the Northern Army during the Civil
War. Among them were the late Francis Trow Johnson, a lawyer in
Brooklyn and the late Seth Richard Johnson, a commander in the
Eighth Regiment, G.A.R.
Mrs.
Coward passed away on May 9, 1939 at the age of 96 at the
Baptist Home in Brooklyn where she was a resident. Mr. Coward
died at the age of 75 on November 20, 1917. Francis is buried at
Maple Grove as well in Summit 200. |
