Daniel Stage
(1870-1929) Prospect 208A

Daniel Stage was a
successful architect and business man in the Richmond Hill area.
His offices were located at Lefferts Avenue (now Boulevard) and
Jamaica Avenue. He built, designed and had mortgages on many
residential and commercial buildings in Richmond Hill. His first
wife, Carrie Abrams Stage died in May of 1907 after a long
illness at their residence at Stewart and Lefferts. When she
died, the obituary mentions an 8 year old son. Also buried with
Daniel and Carrie is Marie E., age 83 years old at the time of
her death in 1964. We assume she is his second wife.
In 1902, through his
Masonic Lodge, Daniel took into custody his niece, a young 14
year old girl named Ella Peterson. Her father John was committed
to an insane asylum and her mom had died of cancer. The young
girl was adopted and not a blood relative to Stage, and he
became her legal guardian and no further information could be
found. Stage died in 1929. Many of his elegant houses still
stand tall in Richmond Hill.
