Under her leadership, Maple Grove has
undertaken a variety of strategic initiatives to broaden its connections with
the residents of Queens. Maple Grove actively encourages community members to
use the cemetery as a resource for reflection, learning, and inspiration.
Ms. Mayo-Perez began her career as an early
childhood education teacher and has over 28 years of experience in the areas of
non-profit management, urban planning, organizational transition management and
business development. She is a graduate of Wheelock College and is currently
pursuing a Master of Arts degree at the Hartford Seminary in Connecticut. She
is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Balm in Gilead, a not-for-profit
organization with a mission to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in faith-based
communities in the US and Africa. She is a Verditas-trained Labyrinth
Facilitator. In 2006 Ms. Mayo-Perez joined the Board of the New York State
Association of Cemeteries. She was also named Queens Woman of Distinction.
She has two daughters, Amora and Kalima and
has traveled extensively. In 2004, Ms. Mayo-Perez participated in a traveling
seminar to Cuba cosponsored by the Plowshares Institute and the Hartford
Seminary.
